5 Things You Can Do To Ensure Great Family Images
So you’ve booked your family photo shoot and you want to make sure that you have images you will love and cherish for years to come. How should you best prepare for your session? I’ve put together a list of 5 tips which if you follow, should ensure great photos.
1. Appropriate clothing
I always suggest that you aim for colours that compliment each other, or co-ordinate. Lay some outfits out, and see how they look together. Are there any accessories you can add that will pick up the colours in another outfit – for example, do you have a necklace in the same colour as the flower pattern on your daughter’s dress? Avoid large, busy patterns and big logos/slogans as they can not only take the focus away from you, but can look dated fairly quickly.
2. Practice posing
This is something I encourage all my clients to do, especially with children as it really does help. Get your child to stand in front of the mirror and make it into a game – who can pull the silliest face! This in turn will encourage those natural smiles!
3. Fed and rested children
Try to book your session for a time of day when you know your children won’t be hungry or tired. This will make the session run much more smoothly!
4. Looking good!
Just before you leave for your photo session, make sure everyone has brushed their hair, cleaned their teeth and washed their faces. It’s amazing how quickly children seem to get dirty (mine do anyway!).
5. DON’T STRESS!
This is the most important tip! Remember – this is meant to be fun, and about capturing you at your best! The above tips are there to help you prepare, but the most important thing is to relax and enjoy yourself – and we know that children can be shy, silly, play up, or everything in between – and that’s perfectly normal.
