A chat with Marie Cole, founder and owner of Wee Clothing
Hi, and welcome to what will hopefully be the first in a series of interviews for this blog. In this interview, we meet Marie Cole, owner and creator of the children’s clothing brand Wee Clothing. I did a photo shoot for her brand in my studio in Churchdown, Gloucester, and sat her down to ask her a few questions.
Hi Marie, can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
I am the proud owner of Wee Clothing, a business that makes and sells bold, colourful and sustainable clothing for babies and children.
What made you want to start your Wee Clothing business?
I have always had an interest in clothing and sewing as a hobby and made clothing for myself and for family and friends. Being made redundant gave me the opportunity to turn a hobby into a business.
How long have you been doing this job?
I began my business in 2007 and it has been steadily growing since then.
What’s the most rewarding part of your business?
There have been many rewarding aspects of my business but I think the most rewarding for me is the feedback that I receive from parents letting me know that something that I’ve made has become their child’s favourite thing in the world. It doesn’t get better than being sent a photo of a young child wearing my clothing.
What would you say your biggest success so far has been?
How I see success changes all the time so it’s very difficult to say which success I see as the biggest. Being able to maintain a healthy and growing business over the last 10 years is high up there. Selling to so many people in so many countries around the world still truly amazes me, seeing my ladies t-shirt design being worn on ‘Come dine with me’, seeing Bollywood star, Yash D wearing my t-shirt, selling to Dr Who actor Matt Smith and Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, of course your photograph of my duck romper being featured in Tatler magazine is high up there. There are so many proud moments for me. My biggest success of this year is being featured in Monarch Airlines onboard magazine. I am flying with them this year and I can’t wait to get my hands on the magazine.
Now, on to your photo session with me!
Name something you particularly liked/enjoyed during your photo session with me.
I really like the relaxed feel of the photo shoot and I was impressed how much fun the children seemed to have when they were having their photograph taken.
If you could give one tip to people to prepare them for their photo shoot, what would it be?
When booking their photo session I would consider which time is best for their child. With my models I always have to think about nap and feeding times. If your little one is a young crawling baby and you’re worried they won’t stay still then buy a bottle of bubbles. I swear by them. The bubbles work wonders at gaining their attention and keeping them sat still and you get the most natural poses whilst they are staring at the bubbles.
Thank you for your time Marie!
